Routine Maintenance for LGD Transporter

Routine Maintenance for LGD

Monthly:

  • Clean Darkroom Airconditioner Filter
  • Clean filters on the fans in the four corners of the cellular wall
  • Remove filters: Take them outside the detector and blow them out with compressed air.
  • Before each run:

    Lubricate detector:

    1) Lube the ball screws.

  • Location: The Ball Screws are located on the upstream side of the detector, to the right and left of the glass stack.
  • Prep for Ball Screws: Use a clean rag to wipe the surface of the ball screw. Wrap the rag around the shaft and rotate it up. About one foot from the top attachment point stop. Move the rag to just below the attachment point and travel down. This prevents grime from being forced into the bearing. Also get on top of the detector and clean the top section. You will need several rags to complete this job. This is done to remove the dust and grime from the precision ground lifting screw threads before applying new grease.
  • Grease: This involves pumping some EP grease into the gear box with a lube gun. Using a clean cloth, loaded with some of the EP grease, rotate it up the shaft. A uniform coating of grease should be left on the entire pathway. The following extreme pressure greases or their equivalent are to be used:

  • Socony Mobile Oil Co......MobilplexE.P.#1
  • Texaco.....................................TexacoE.P.#1
  • Gulf oil Corp. ...............Gulf Crown E.P.#1
  • Shell Oil Co. ...............Shell Alvania E.P.#1
  • 2) Rack and pinion

  • Location: under upstream rail (for horizontal motion) inside the top of the "C"
  • Prior to application: Clean with soft cloth before applying new oil.
  • Lubercation: 90 wt gear oil
  • Meathod of application: soak a cloth and wipe over surface untill a coating is over all parts.
  • 3) Verticle Guide Rails:

  • Location: The vertical rails are parallel to the ball screws. Beam Right side has two guides, one to restrain the detector in Z and the other to restrain it in Y. The beam left side also has a Z restraint. The Z restraints travel the full height of the detector.
  • Prep Rails: Using a clean soft rag, wipe old grease off of rails.
  • Grease: Apply a thin layer of grease to any surface coming in contact with a guide roller on the rail. EP is the recomened grease for this job.
  • 4) Horizontal guide rails:

  • Location: The upstream rail contains the only horizontal guide. The guide located on the bottom side of the rail, opposite the rack.
  • Prep Rails: Using a clean soft rag, wipe old grease off of rails.
  • Grease: Apply a thin layer of grease to any surface coming in contact with a guide roller on the rail. EP is the recomened grease for this job.
  • If you do not understand or are having trouble finding the correct grease call Eric Scott !!!! DO NOT wing it.
